Wow, that's a better response than I thought I'd get! I was expecting a bit of flack for butchering a cool van, but they were a dime a dozen then and I wanted something different. I was only 18 and trying to play with the "big boys" like Chris Cummings and John Strachan, so a stock bodied HK wasn't going to get a look-in, let alone win a trophy.
Yep, that's Stingray badge on the bonnet, a tribute to where the motor came from. Still got the badge on my badge wall with a lot of cool others. "Corvette Summer" was the big film at the Drive-In's, so I was going to put that badge on regardless of what anyone thought!
I wonder where it is now.....?
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
Why did you butcher such a cool van?........
It looked good Rob. It's a shame you never see any HK/T/G vans or Utes about anymore.
I think they copped it bad in the rust department especially the utes. Wasn't the floorpan based on a station wagon and the footwells under the tray all filled up with water?
Something like that anyway made them rust out and get retired. I liked the utes especially with the GTS guards and HG GTS bonnet vents.

I saw a HK ute recently that I should have bought. It was an original Silver Mink example which made it very rare as that was not an available colour on a commercial. It was a 6cyl, if it had have been a V8 I would have made the effort to get it. Would have looked nice done up like a HK GTS with the blackouts and stripes and with red trim.
There is a Silver Mink ute over here with the Red Goya trim with the GTS look
its an absolute stunning ute 350 chev turbo 400 9 inch the usual stuff
Is it an original Silver Mink HK yet though? This is the only one that I have ever heard of - metallic on HK commercials were like hen's teeth.
