It is a "possible" Sandman.
Couple of points:
Should have fluted guards
Never had a GTS Grill Badge
Standard mirrors are correct for HQ
Clock was optional
Sandman decal were dealer fitted (or not fitted) as per customer request.
Trim 1870-30e Kingswood Black Buckets
Paint 567-15337 Metallic Sunburst Gold (a good sign) but still common to Kingswoods.
well it all helps out thanks for your time i was told by some people most had fluted guards but they came out with standard guards too ?
its a hard car to work out if it was hj hx or hz it not that hard to tell
touch and go mate coz it could be an optioned up kinga with floor shift. if paint is orig and there are no gts guards or stickers i'd be worried. delete stickers was only an option in later models.
console mounting brackets will be the clincher apparently. hard to see how you can hang your hat on one check box huh
BQZ
yer it could be a high option kingswood ute who knows ??? it has chrome scuff plates too but they could of been put on at anytime in its life
Stickers mean little on HQ. They came rolled up in the glove box. May never have been fitted. Fluted guards, could have been changed years ago. No GTS mirrors for HQ. HX onwards in Sandman.
Got any pictures?
i have pictures but no idea how too get them on the computer the old girl is nothing flash to look at bad rust been sitting out in open for over ten years that i know of
I'd give it a 50/50 chance. The only things on (or not on) a HQ Kingswood Sandman ute that were not standard or not option-able on a HQ Kingswood ute are:
Sill stainless strips deleted from Sandman.
Sandman had fluted guards.
140mph/225kmh speedo (Kingswood when optioned with sports instruments got 120mph/200kmh speedo).
Console shift standard in Sandman - Kingswood optioned with buckets and 4spd was floor shift only (no console available).
Satin blackouts on lower body as mentioned, and headlight surrounds blacked out.
Sandman got SS grille.
Sandman got horn cap with insert hole with unique Sandman insert.
Stripes were dealer fit so they were there or not depending upon taste. 1870 (Sunburst metallic) got XX7 (black) stripes if fitted.
VIN for the car is 8N80TDJ431226Q - you already provided it in the text.
thats true but it really dont matter on the vin i will have alook at speedo and see what it is
Its chassis number should be ballpark EHQ257xxM to low EHQ261xxM, probably closer to EHQ25800M or thereabouts but they can vary a tad.
