That is a mid-luxury dash as it is a Kingswood. HJ Belmont or HJ ute/van/tonner dash is the poverty dash.

202 is luxury too, and that Kingswood got front discs standard and carpet too. Belmont and base commercials got a 173, front drums and rubber mats. Plus none of that special flash vinyl!

That is what a Holden was like though in 1974. It is what people expected. If you were a tradesman you might opt for a ute or tonner with a 202 or 253 with discs, possibly a 4spd as in 1974 manuals were still the big seller (by 1977 autos were far more common). My parents both had HQ's, mum's a 202 3spd Kingswood wagon, dad's a Belmont ute 173 3spd. Even the WB van that replaced the ute was pretty basic especially compared to mum's 1981 Cressida.

No the HQ dash is not ugly, certainly prettier than the HJ. If you really want to talk ugly on these Holdens then the WB front qualifies!!!

Especially the early 1980 WB Holden front, they dropped it later that year. What is ugly is the WA Kingswood sedan, which was a mixture of HJ Statesman body with the WB Kingswood front. I saw one again last week at Birdwood.
