    Console bracket

From everything I've read here, I had a picture in my head of a large brackety looking thing for the console. All I have is this...
It's an an HX so does that mean probably not an original Sandman even though it had the toothed roof lining holder at the back?

Well there's nobracket there, but was there one? It looks like marks (holes) from on being removed, welds pulled off?

It has one at the front. Maybe the rear one was forcibly removed, as suggested?

It means it has holes in the tunnel.

The other side of the tunnel is smooth. No sign of being altered from original. One of life's mysteries :-)

It probably wasn't spot welded on properly and ended up breaking off when it had been leaned on a billion times. Wasn't uncommon back then to see a lot of half-arsed spot welds and gaps in panels where welding didn't penetrate. Seam sealer filled 'em up.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

they never had spot weids but had good mig runs that would never ever pull out even to remove factory welded brackets takes a 4 inch cutter to cut thru the welds

Is there any chance that section of the floor/transmission tunnel has been replaced at some point? Some of those lines look a bit odd to me, maybe strip the floor back, see whats under the paint. It's not a usual place for rust, but dumber things have happened, could have been cut out to fit a different tranmission at some stage perhaps and a repair afterward? If the black looking paint/coating, is body sound deadener it should rub back with turps and a stainless steel dish scrubber and a bit of scraping. If its someting else stripper should get you through for just that section.

Btw strikes me the site should have a pic of the original mounts if they are not on here already. I just tried to post some, but for some reason I couldnt upload, my computer jammed twice - its getting old, lol, still on Win XP, I can try again later. Perhaps somebody else can easily find an easy reference pic for tidyvan? I'll have to reinstall Mozilla to upload I think.
