Is my HJ a genuine Sandman.

    G'day All,
When I bought my van 2 years ago I purchased it not because I wanted a genuine Sandman but wanted to relive my youth with my 40 year old wife. If I give the following details can someone let me know either way -

    LHS Comp Plate -
    8/75 BHJ 32230A
    GVM 2200kg
    Seat Cap 2

    Middle Comp Plate -
    8M70 REL 307316J

    RHS Comp Plate -
    Model HJ 8WM70
    Body No. 148712-A
    Trim 1888-64
    Paint 568-15951
    Eng L32
    Trans M40
    R Axle GU7

Tyre Placard (this looks like it's new repo type) 9930173ND

Bought the van with no roof lining but has teeth section at top of where rooflining finishes.

Has door light jams inside dooors.

    Cheers,
    Glenn.

Unfortunately unless it is a Brisbane build with XX7 stamped on the body plate, or you have the original build sheet, or you have the original vehicle identification certificate there is no way to prove a HJ is a genuine Sandman.

Your HJ appears to have all the Sandman identifiers so the best we can say from the info is it is most probably a Sandman.

Trim 1888-64 ............. 1888 is the exterior trim colour- Cotillian white............ 64V is the interior trim colour- Gazelle

From the pictures there is not much original HJ left on the car, mostly HX and HZ. Very nice looking van though and the main thing is that you are happy with it.

HUX454, looks like one of those grey area sandmans.
if it was built 2 months later, and if it was the common sandman option (XX7), the tags would read exactly the same, except the GVM would have been 1950kg.
    this change occurred 10/1975.

love the Gazelle, i don't think i have seen another with that trim.

the auto and universal colour white doesn't help its cause much , white is common and auto sandmans are rare.

one of my sandmans is a 5/75 HJ ute in cotillion white, melb build, WM body, 2 seater, L32, M20, black slate trim, door interior lights etc etc so i am in the same boat as you. :-)

sounds like you are old enought to realise that these are just numbers on a car and to just enjoy it.
