    Fords you would/have owned

Hopefully I don't get banned for posting this.

Blocker's post the other day about his missus' Capri got me thinking about Fords I would love to own. Whilst I'm a Holden guy at heart (and never owned a Ford) I can appreciate some of the blue oval products (at least those with chrome bumpers) and there are even some I would love to have in the shed if the opportunity arose.

20 years ago I had an interstate girlfriend whose old man had a off white XB ute with 302 and auto that he used on the weekends to tow a boat. Whenever I flew up there he kindly allowed me the use of it to get around. It was a sweet ride, smooth and nice V8 burble. I'll try and find an old photo. I have since loved those utes (and the big coupe doors!) and they are my favourite out of the Aussie utes, in fact would buy one in preference to a sandman ute (don't ban me).

As posted in the title, what Ford have to got/had/desire?

I owned an XF Falcon ex-cab once, I bought it just as the 7 year old rule came in in NSW, it was cheap and cheap to run. Far better car (as a good not flogged out ex-cab) than the Holden equivalent. But still rusty junk end the end.

There is one and only one regular production Ford I like and that is an XA GT, preferably RPO83 coupe but I like the sedans too. Ford wrecked them totally in the facelift going from nice to butt ugly and got worse in XC.

Can't stand Mustangs. Camaros/Firebirds and Dodge Chargers are far nicer to look at.

There is one other I like and that is the XW Bill Bourke Special.

And I can appreciate the GT-HO's for what they were, but to look at they don't do anything for me.

As for modern Fords, I thought the G6E were a far better car to drive than their Holden equivalent, ran rings around the Calais equivalent. If I was to buy a ute today i'd buy an XR6 or XR6 turbo over an SV6 or SS solely as the Falcon has leaf springs in the XR6T vs SS comparison, but i'd have an XR6 over an SV6 regardless.

XD ute or XC ute are not bad. Hard to beat the big cube 351.
Had a ford escort here. Went in the scrap truck. Happy days.

I've got a BF Falcon 1 Tonner on gas as a daily driver. It does the job of getting me from A to B and can haul the required equipment and spares plus tow a rally car around the country side when I go rallying.

I grew up with my father preferring only Ford over the opposition. My memory goes back to him buying a Demo XK Falcon..(the first falcon,)..He then owned every second model up until the XC,which was his last vehicle. He did buy a new HJ Kingswood ute in 75 though, as the door's on the equivalent Ford were too big and heavy.

I bought my Father's XA V8 Fairmont when he decided to upgrade, I had that for four year's until I traded it for my Sandman. My wife bought a new KA Laser in 83, and in 84 we bought a new XE Falcon wagon which we had for ten year's. Following the XE, we moved toward's buying the commodore. All up I have no real preference over Ford or Holden, I have never had a drama with either brand. I have driven them both extensively all over NSW and now QLD, over all road condition's.

    Cheers.

I had a 1969 XW GT Falcon, Diamond White with black interior. I bought it for $2000 off a guy who had it under a tarp in his back yard which was next door to a house I was building... Sold to me as a GT look alike it wasn't until I got it home and started stripping it to repaint that I noticed the model number and rang Ford. Turned out I had a genuine GT that had the original auto swapped out for a 4sp top loader.

after rust repairs and repainting the XW I was in at Supercarz in Brissy looking at trading it in on the Street Machine "HQ for You" but the original winner has thrashed it so I was looking over a Yellow XYGTHO with black interior that was for sale at $15,000 (same price they wanted for the HQ) but would only offer me $5000 for my XW. Another customer heard I was interested in trading and offered me $7000 cash for it, sold it to him on the spot and went in and offered the yard $13,000 cash for the GTHO and drove away in it about an hour later. I traded the HO six months later on a SS A9X I found at a Holden dealer on the Moorooka Magic mile.... XW/XYGTHO were overrated as the A9X was a far superior car in every way.

currently have a 1944 wwii Ford GPW jeep sitting in my container at a mates place in Brisbane.

We have a 1939 ford as a hot rod but I would love a black 1936 coupe,I would also be happy to have an XA or XB GT sedan or coupe,XP coupe or an XW or XY but not a GT just a GS or Fairmont V8
