in your pics above blocker, which one is the 5ml and which one is the 3 ml ??..

from right to left the steering wheels above are 2x 5ml thick hq hj wheels 1x 3ml thick hx hz wheel with hz centre cap and 1x 442 oldsmobile wheel..the HQ sandman wheel has the only one i have ever seen, plastic raised HQ sandman insert..

this is where you get the term 5ml and 3ml from..it is the measurement of the thickness of the spoke..

the reason they went to 3ml wheels was an adr change in hx so the wheels collapsed easier in accidents...

    Hq gts steering wheel

this is a pic of the steering device on my hq gts 350 coupe.5 ml thick spokes..gts badged insert..cap is the same as hq sandman just change the insert..the grain in an hq hj steering wheel is generally a lot deeper than the later hx hz steering wheels and will last longer and be more defined as in not smooth.

Interesting about that risen horn cap. I have from what I can tell original Sandman badges that are the alloy printed style. The HQ SS horn caps are also a allu with black print......

it is interesting because all the gurus of holden have never seen one either and i would not think that someone would go to all the trouble of reproducing one raised plastic sandman insert for a steering device..i bought it off ebay around 9 years ago and back then i paid $368 which was ridiculousy expensive money but i wanted the wheel because it is perfect with better grain than the one on my coupe..the badge was just a bonus..one day soon i will get it down from the roof where its pictured and take the insert out if i can..may even do it later today..
