Great tip!
Anyone have a current or recent Rares example to show the differences?
customer came in driving this...
and on it was a rare spares wheel which he kindly let me measure and photograph..
they measure the same as the bridgestone 3 ml wheel...
differences if you look at the pics are.
they have a seperate boss to the wheel and these are held on by allen keys which you cand see in one of the pics behind the horn pad..
the boss is a totally different shape to the original.
the feel of the wheel is quite flimsy and my customers wheel had already broken at 1 spoke which really is unacceptable for any reproduction product.
you can see by the condition of the monaro that the wheel breaking would not be from any form of abuse..
If it's got a broken spoke, I would be returning it straight away!!
I didn't know they were doing the buckskin coloured wheel.
The grain doesn't look good enough for me either..
cheers
Mick
mick,in the top picture you can see the wheel is out of shape on its right spoke...its the second rares wheel ive had my hands on and they were both flimsy feeling..with no power steering i reckon they would break from normal use...:errf:
i realise this thread is old but very shortly you will see a new repro wheel being made, i know a few members on here have seen them and like them, we will only have the later thin version available for obvious reasons tho
ill make sure to post up as soon as we can to show you guys one

Ok.... I was just checking on the coloured wheels for HZ SL/E and noticed something interesting for the black sports wheels.......
Two black sports wheels are listed in the HZ parts catalogue.....
Part number 2817164 ....... use prior to ADR25A .... superceded by 92003716BA
Part number 92003716BA... use with ADR25A
HQ to HZ are the same part number of 2817164..... prior to ADR25A
ADR25A anti-theft locks first applied from 1st Jan 1978.
So..... the 5mm sports steering wheel was used until the end of 1977 with the 3mm wheel being used from 1st Jan 78..... the same time the ignition lock ASM changed.
