I have a253 engine no wr 378924 .does anyone know what month and year the casting date should be as im haveing trouble reading it looks like someone tried to grind it off .cheers andrew.

Did 1982 253 have 4.2 cast on side of block or 253 as I think we have a block redecked to look like a wb block.

253. Not sure if very late ones had 253 on both sides like late Commodore 308's did.

I have 378924 from WB or VH around December 1982 to February 1983 or thereabouts. So the cast date will be in the vicinity or 1-3 months or so prior.

Thanks, looks like this is a legit wb block.ive manage to make out casting no as nov 82 .cheers.

There is no real difference between 253 blocks from about mid 1978 through to the end of WB other than the QR, VR, ZR, WR engine number or possibly the extra 253 on the side if late WB engines got it. Plus the red or blue paint!

My WB is '84, so if I get a chance to have a look tomorrow I'll see what mines got.
