can anyone please tell me what a quadrajet with the number 702821204 would be from please,one has just come up for sale locally and would it be suitable for a 308 in a HQ thankyou

It is probably 7028212 and the 04 is part of the day code. If it this carb it will also have ZF stamped there too. This is a 1971-2 HQ 308 auto carby, and thus is suitable for a 308 auto HQ. You can't use it in a manual.

Wrong vacuum advance. Manual needs ported vacuum. Auto gets full vacuum. It helps overcome the torque converter on an auto, manual will race at idle. The manual vs auto difference is only applicable up to 12/74, after that there is no such difference in GMH local product as you need the ported vacuum signal on both auto and manual to purge the canister so the carbies have both ports on them (full port gets blocked on manual).

Remember that is for US vehicles, it is a fair bit different here with models and years.
