AFAIK they just went around the clock again, they'd used up all letters in the alphabet once the trim upgrade came around about 10/78. Z, A and B were used in HX. Z was the last one used for LE.

HZ and WB catalogues are full of C codes. WB probably changed back to V codes when the same happened in Commodore.

Something will have changed to cause a code change. The colours changed later on from memory in alignment with VH or VK.

The trim did change it went from long leather grain to sandpaper. The colour remained the same.

Yes it changed in Hz but not in WB. Late HZ and WB had the same pattern trim. Some different colours like Oyster. No doubt Statesman had a whole plethora of unique trims.

As far as I know WB went back to using "V" and "C" was a late HZ thing on the crossover.

As I said, the code changed but the trim didn't, why?

Because it was the same colour only the pattern changed.
Using Buckskin as the colour example:
Earlier HZ had Buckskin long grain and was called 63V
Later HZ Buckskin sandpaper and was called 63C

You need to have different codes to order parts when replacing.
That shouldn't be too hard to understand?

63C. Dash pad was sandpaper look yes. (but colour was not exactly the same colour "buckskin" as the door trims. But, things like seats the vinyl was a short grain look. Same colour. Just different grain in the vinyl.

Ignore the 90's photo. This dash pad is 63C colour. 63C or V glovebox 63V or C console
