    Chevrolet Motor Swap

Working on 77 HX Sandman. Got my chassis all restored and started on the motor. After I started gathering up the pieces of the motor that the previous owner had dismantled, I realized that I was missing half the motor and most of what I did have here is from some other Chevrolet motor. I contacted the previous owner and I think he threw away any remains he had! This car originally had the 308 motor. Due to availability of Holden parts here in the states I opted for a 383 Chevrolet stroker motor. I'm just starting to fit everything and see I have some issues with motor mounts and the oil pan. Oil pan is too tall and is hitting the front cross member. Anyone here made this conversion?

Small bock Chev engine was standard fitment to that chassis (in a HQ) so fits easily. Sump is just a normal rear hump Chev one. The engine mount adapters and engine mounts are unique to a Holden though so you'll need to order those from here. When I get home i'll find links for you.

Here a link to one place that stocks them.

You will find them at many places. Basically your searching for Chevy to HQ-WB Engine Mount Adapters

There are plenty of places to get both but not all will send overseas. Greg Barker from Rare Spares gets on here so he may be able to help you outside of the system if they don't export?

Thanks guys for the help, I'll place an order with Rare Spares for the two different part numbers you suggested. I'm actually using a Tremec transmission that we had for another vehicle but didn't work out. I got a bell housing adapter that adapted the 383 to the Ford style Tremec I had.

Maybe PM Greg Barker through this site first to see if they can freight to the USA. When you say 383 Chev too, the mounts I put up are for a 1958 onwards Small Block Chev (2 piece rear main seal Chev engine). I think they also suit the GM LT (GenII) engine with one piece rear main seal, just check they are the same mount casting on the sides.

You may be able to buy headers, a speedo cable and gearbox crossmember over here for it too ready to use.

Headers are everywhere for this conversion, just look on Ebay for Small block Chev in HQ-WB.

Speedo cable, these guys or Mal Wood in QLD will make one: http://www.rodshop.com.au/index.php/...edo-cable.html

CRS again for gearbox crossmember: http://www.rodshop.com.au/index.php/...s-members.html
