help needed - temp gauge sender.

Some good info provided here. I also could use some help as I have a similar issue. I have a HQ & the temp indicator hardly moves also. I have tested the indicator with a decade box & is fine, it has a new thermostat fitted. So now I'm thinking the sender, after all the previous info provided by you all. Any chance of anyone knowing the P/n of the 74 HQ GTS temp sender. That way I can check if mine is correct. Thanks all.

The VDO Part Number is 320.002
for your 74 HQ GTS temp sender unit.

Holden part number 7438478 for the sender unit and part number 7438477 for the adapter.

Rare Spares Melbourne still has a stock of the 320.003 senders. They are listed as Ford suitable XR-XC, which explains the staff trying to advise on their application. However as VDO supplied parts to GMH & Ford it is possible they are compatible.

l just bought a vdo 320.003 picked up today at repco they are still available to buy

It's not a matter of compatibility. VDO 320.003 is 100% correct for both Holden, Ford and many other makes (in the appropriate year models). The fact your staff can't do more than read a sticker/label doesn't build customer confidence. VDO still stock and supply all numbers listed in their catalog.
