All I know is they were only bought out in 1974.
I will be corrected if wrong. I think only 9 months.
No known records exist.
Thanks, I understand numbers were low, maybe less than 100?? Any still getting around, haven't seen a real one in the "flesh" yet
I have a inkling that the HQ Sandman was to be a limited build initially, much like the VSIII SS ute. So GMH built a quantity for sale early on in 1974. I think this is where the numbers that get thrown up from time to time come from i.e. this quantity was a distinct number like 100 or 200 or whatever. After they sold quickly then you could order them and more were built for stock order.
No one will ever know!! but i have one and i may be buried in it, or donate to a museum. But my wife would probably just sell it and buy an FJ !!
Another related question, does anyone know the difference between a Belmont and Kingswood in the HQ Sandman ute, I assume the latter may have been better optioned?
My old man bought a new HQ Belmont Ute and I remember things like, no radio, really crap bench seat that was much less in quality than a Kingswood and no protector strips on the Side of the body. That's what I remember but probably a lot more.
* sorry, I missed the sandman part so this may not be relevant.
