    i thought the steering wheel was thicker in the steel spokes, i have a few that look to be around 5mm, most others are thin

    All early sports wheels are thick spokes. It changed after HQ at some stage.

    5mm thick spoked GTS steering wheels were used right up to Jan 1978 so correct up to early HZ.

    Pic is a 5mm thick GTS wheel....
