    lower control arms ??

    hey guys started to pull the front suspension off the hq van to get ready for sandblasting ( massive progress on the resto) and noticed that the lhs lower control arm has been chopped out by the sway bar link. just waned to know if there is any difference in v8 ones and the 6 bangers

    I didn't think HQ's had sway bars.

    had a google search. looks like they do

    No, they are all the same. Just the springs are different.
    Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

    HQ and HJ are different to later ones, but only in the shock mounting area. Later ones are cut out more for bigger shocks. If you are doing an anal resto you want early ones but otherwise it doesn't matter.

    The only full-sized Holdens not factory fitted with front sway bars were the FX & FJ series. All Holdens FE onwards (except pre-77 Toranas) had them.

    Does this mean they still mount the same ie you could use a later one in HJ without replacing upper and any other related parts?

    Yes. Only things changed were the enlargement of the shocky holes, and the bushes for RTS. From memory uppers wer ethe same too, the RTS geometry was achieved in the chassis unlike UC where it was in the control arm itslef.
