Can anyone confirm confidently if 74 HQ's still had external regulator or had changed to internal
Others will check and advise but i believe that they are external, mounted on the radiator support panel. (Mine is and the harness is original, out of a HQ)
I can't remember for certain but I think most HQ were external reg Bosch. There were some internal reg Lucas alternators around at the time, possibly only used in higher current alternator applications eg Statesman with A/C. Dr Terry will remember better if he sees this.

I just checked, it appears to be external for both Bosch and Lucas. Bosch uses a double contact vibrating voltage regulator. Lucus uses a semi-sealed solid state transistor voltage regulator.
However the HQ parts catalogue shows an internally regulated Bosch unit.
