So where is the breather or PCV located? Does it have the snorkel in the manifold like the early Chevs, or is the hole in the front of the rocker cover for the PCV and not in the top?

Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
As above, rear LHS for Holden and front RHS for Torana.
I have some early ones in the shed will check tomorrow.
The ones below are on gumtree however they are not the ones you are after. Sorry my mistake.

^^Those are HJ or later HQ or LH or early LX form memory.
What are these off, Byron? Well, the one you can see anyway. Can't remember if the other side is the same.
Early HQ by the looks. That engine wouldn't run too well as it has a sealed filler cap and almost certainly a PCV on the LH rear so the crankcase wouldn't be able to breathe and always be under -ve pressure.
The LH rocker cover remained the same part number for HT-early HQ, so I think the round pressing must appear during HG so they can be used for HQ engine production during HG.
IMG_2491.JPG What about this one I bought this for my HQ Sandman as part of a pair is it incorrect for 74 mid year build
74 hq would have the circle pressings,do you have 2 like that or just one,I think that is what Byron is looking for,if he doesn't want them I do
The other one has the circle around the oil filler
