One of my hobbies...weird but very cathartic!

I enjoy refurbishing commercial entertainment lighting. My latest project is repairing 6 x Martin Minimac Profile fixtures, perfectly suited to small stages, bars, clubs...and your man cave!

Thanks Alien and Burd. Lighting = Mood and the best shows have the best 'artists' running the visual aspect. These types of lights suffer mostly from heat if they contain metal halide lamps, but road use and lack of servicing also hurts them. Older (cigarette) smoke filled venues deteriorated them the most, but modern smoke and haze also fills these fixtures with glycerine or glycol based atmospheric contamination.

I love firing up each fixture after refurb and putting it through its motions including pan, tilt, colour and gobo type.

Too cool Damien! Not in the man cave for me though, I'd put em on the front verandah!

Never imagined they are belt driven.

Love your artistry! Yes most 'moving head' fixtures use ratio belt drives to run the pan and tilt functions. These work well to achieve smooth sweeping motions and very accurate XYZ positioning, however 'scanning' type fixtures usually mount a mirror directly onto the pan/tilt stepper motors. This gives fast movement of light using the mirror as opposed to a moving head fixture...ah now i feel all warm and fuzzy, i can tackle Tuesday!

So cool, way out of my league though, I've just seen them from time to time and checked out the source (as you do). However, I like your description of 'fast movement of light', (I assume you probably mean fast deflection) but I like the implied idea that the speed of light may not be constant.

Intended or not this is always a fun muse for me, chuck the rules out and see if one can up with a different idea of how everything hangs together....Hmmmn, now just one more beer and I'm sure I might work it out...lol sleep, nope, still dumb lol!

Oh dear, clichés galore coming up. Anyway, to answer SLR Dave, yes i did mean fast 'deflection' of light from the moving mirror surface. Think of a projector with a fixed body, a strong lamp shining out the lens at the front, with a variety of shapes and colours placed in the light beam path. Now put a mirror in front of the projector and move it around. Thats how you get the club lighting effect with 'scanners'. See pic below
