    Saginaw 4speed shifter??

Hi all. Just bought a Saginaw with a hurst shifter. Question is it looks like the shifter is over to the far left of the extension housing, like FAR left. What will I have to do to fit in the floor shifter hole on the van?? Something like change the gear stick Maybe?? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers

In HQ and A9X they put a tunnel patch on to clear the Hurst shifters.

The original hole is opened up and a pressed metal "shaped" cover is screwed over making a patch.

The tunnel patch is welded in ,then a new hole cut then reinforced to be legal,
The Saginaw being American is designed for left hand drive, that is why it sits to the left.
Hurst shifters make a number of different shifters with the stick being different offsets and lengths.
I run a top loader with a hurst designed for a 66 mustang .Which gives me the stick a2 inch offset to the right ,
then sits through my factory console and boot.
Hurst have shifters with bolt-in sticks so you can get a spacer made to move it to the right more.....image.jpg

Yeah right, so I can modify the gear stick rather then the tunnel? That's sounds a heap better then modifying the tunnel.
Cheers for that. Didn't really want to modify the tunnel if I don't have too.

Hi mate. What's the box behind? Do you find it tuff enough? I've heard mixed reports on these boxes. Would a speed shop be who you buy the l bracket off? Cheers

A Saginaw is really no stronger than a Aussie 3 or 4 Speed. You will be modifying the tunnel if you have the side mount mechanism.
The shifter bend or spacer is just to centre the stick (above floor level). I wouldn't be using a Saginaw in a full size car with any grunt.

My Saginaw box is behind a worked 202 triple carbed GTR torana running a 3.55 lsd diff
the gears on the box are fantastic with my engine really short shift
and great gear ratios regularly touch 7/ 7400 rpm so far so good
    tuff enough for me
