Yeah I have done the spare wheel well myself and it I like the idea very much on a custom. I wouldn't do it to a genuine Sandman but outside of that great and useful concept.
The swinging spare wheel was a very poverty addition to the HQ. In fact I'm sure to add the spare wheel well to my VY.

Interesting thoughts. I agree with not hacking up a Sandman and I am making this a custom van in a few areas. It was an idea I had when I started a 1tonner project some years ago and as this van was missing its entire wheel hanger system I thought I'd do it. Cheers for the PIC and glad to see others have done it as well.

Oh yes, forgot to add that the van was windowless from factory. I had to hunt around quite a bit to find a windowless WB with factory V8 as the base vehicle.

I reckon it is a brilliant idea. I should have done one under my ute, would certainly have solved the cleaning issue much easier before a show and is a tasteful, useful mod.

The section I cut out of the floor ,I used a jigsaw to keep the cut very fine
so it could be welded back in later if needed.
Once the carpet went down in the back you would not really notice it..

    white windscreen from the extinguisher
So during one of my many revamps the boot went in the floor, the battery got moved to the rear and still have room for a spare and tool box.
Check out the van "Chairman of the board" in cv&t it has a boot fitted as well
Hi panoz78, have you got any more pics of your boot? Is that a battery isolator switch underneath? Cheers

Battery on right with master just below
Cleaning stuff on the left and it's big enough for a spare.

When it's closed you would hardly know it was there
    (Good too hide 4-5 pounds)

That was the beauty of the early Holden vans built on the wagon floorplan. The wooden floor could be unscrewed and the front half hinged to be a lift up section that had a heap of space below. Also you had the spare wheel door which gave you a lockable box. If you moved your (usually wider than stock) spare under the lift up floor, then you had a good toolbox, jack, spares area that was easily accessed.

Ok, the van is still on the move. The quarter panels have been 'shrunk' and skim coat is on. I'm told its now time for something called high fill and blocking, then its paint time.
