Thanks Axistr, yeah that current draw ramp sounds about right according to the Wiki page i was reading. There's also a wiring diagram on there and a few other details, so here's the link for everyone...

I have googled wiring diagrams for the Astra pump on numerous occasions without success. Thanks for the diagram. Yep that all makes sense. I have used a Type 2 Astra pump to pressure test my Torana power steering racks when finish building them. Has copped a hiding over the past five years, its a good bullet proof pump. Interesting they state an oil, I have just used Dextron III.

Well, a little update tonight and maybe a milestone?

While the main body paint still languishes in the doldrums, i made a decision to proceed with painting the front dash section and windscreen surround, then fit the windscreen up...just figured i need to push on wherever i can for now. So I got some colour matched satin charcoal paint mixed up to suit the dashboard crash pad and had it sprayed on today.

I've been staring at it for about an hour and i think the staring will continue tomorrow...also feeling a bit giddy with excitement so might head towards the bourbon bar for the rest of tonight!

Hey Valencia...yep i would generally agree and pondered this myself. I can still leave it out, but i did decide to put it in as i figured the paint shop could work around it...and i'm keen to see progress anywhere... I will have another think...

Wow, can't believe this thread was last updated over a year ago...i'm getting truly slack. Hmmm, so where to pick up from...I guess things are still moving along, so i will attempt to list out this last year's milestones.

I think the key achievements from last year (in order) would be...
    1) front screen installed (yep controversial i know),
    2) wiring the van up (this was bigger then Ben Hur),
    3) getting it dragged out of the garage and sent to a rot-rod shop,
    4) exhaust install,
    5) fuel fill pipe install,
    6) air induction install,
    7) power steering commissioned,

The target is to allow the shop to start this thing up and make it work. Then it will be off to get its paint done and I will try to push it over the line. I will start posting some pics of each stage in a few minutes...

Electrical stage 1. This was basically taking the old WB Statesman Caprice loom, threading it into the van and then connecting new modified looms for hidden engine bay wiring, hidden battery feeds and additional circuits. This was crazy painful and took weeks of effort. The reward was turning on the lights, and testing the horn and indicators for the first time.

Get the old loom into the dashboard...

It was heavy going around the fuse panel and drivers side A pillar. This is where most things intersected from the rear and front of the van...
    PXL_20230312_054835928.jpg

A lot of the new circuits were sent to the centre console area as they will either be controlled from console switches or the Haltech ECU which got mounted inside the console...
    PXL_20230325_063934626.jpg

I also got the twin batteries mounted up under the van body. They are bolted to a custom steel plate which was laser cut to fit onto the chassis...

This was a good night. Basically all of the body harness was in and connected to the batteries so i got to test the lights, horns and other stuff...

Electrical Stage 2. This was looming the engine and transmission (4L60E) to the Haltech ECU under the console and included new functions that i hadn't originally thought about (like changing from a VS dizzy to a VT dizzy). I had previously done an engine loom, but wasn't happy with some of it so ended up mixing in new Haltech wires with some of my older work.

Engine and transmission looms come through a floor grommet under the console area...
    PXL_20230406_062402877.jpg

The Haltech Elite 2500 ECU, CANBus module and extension relay box fitted neatly into the old WB console...

    PXL_20230407_052245776.jpg

Even with plenty of room under the console, it still got hectic doing the wiring...
    PXL_20230407_073540799.jpg

Eventually everything was wired in and ready for testing. This stage needed Haltech on line from Sydney taking over my old laptop and remotely programming all my circuits to match with the Haltech inputs and outputs. Remarkably, it all went fairly well with no major screw ups. The second laptop in this pic is a Google Chromebook being used to program a digital (GaugeArt) CANbus instrument cluster...
    PXL_20230410_051209836.jpg

Then i got to test a bunch of things while watching the new instrument cluster. Yep, i get to use the old cruise control button to tab through the instrument pages...

After weeks and weeks...and weeks of wiring work, it was time to drag it out of the garage and send it to a shop. Basically I can't do the things needed next, i just don't have the right equipment, hoist or skills. It was a good day to clear the van out of the garage...

To make the van mobile, i needed to get some front panels and the boot back from the paint shop and fit them up. This was good because i got to see (or not see) my hidden wiring looms in the engine bay...

Big moment, drag the van out of the garage...
    PXL_20230424_000814820.jpg

Dropped it off to its new home and then went and lay down for a while to recover from all the work...
