I think if you have a look at prices now and say 10 years ago they have gone up since the mining boom but that has all changed sad to say its only a minority that are still interested in paying good $$$$ for good cars
and in another 10 years who knows what the prices or demand will be
but i think the writing is on the wall for a lot of these old cars
only the rare and desirable cars will fetch top $$$

It's all mere speculation. No one knows what will or wont be a good investment with 100% certainty.

Find what you like, and enjoy what you have.

If only you could without paying stupid overinflated prices.
Honestly a Sandman is worth about $5000. They have no race pedigree and were only a sticker kit. $70000? Rediculous.

... but you're buying nostalgia not metal and stickers.

Can't put a price on nostalgia when your average buyer is in their 50's and cashed up.

It also means that in 40 years time people will be restoring AU Falcons or VT Commodores.

Yep. I know. Just frustrates me. It's the car that's interesting. Somewhere it gets lost and the value outweighs the point of owning them. Freedom machine? Not really anymore.

    here's one for ya gene

im not good with toranas (i actually hate them to bits) but here goes

a9x or gtr shows up at the auctions somewhere between 1999 and 2001 - purple with chamois interior. owned by a holden dealership owner from the north-west since new... had 300 genuine KMS! sold for $24,000 to one of the staff there. apparently this bloke had a bit of foresight and bought heaps of old cars. imagine what that torrie is worth now!

or this one.... bloke takes his white SLR5000 to dealership to trade on a new mitsubishi turbo... they offer him $2,500. salesman asks to drive it and the seller hears the rubble as the salesman flogs it down the road. purchaser renegs on the deal. still has it tucked away in the shed. paid $4,200 for it when he was 24. i like stories like this. i'd get bored and move it along

Nup. That's not what i meant. What "was" the car to have. Not what was not collectable then and is now.

EH Holden was the car that everyone raved about when I was 17. That made them around 13 years old and sellers were already getting good money for them. My Dad was determined my 1st car was going to be an EH, but I was determined I was getting a van and there just weren't many for sale at a price that was reasonable so I ended up with a HR then a HK (both would have been cheaper than an EH).

People raved about EH's.... "Best car Holden ever made" was a common tag.

I personally liked HR's better and I'm not alone, but EH's were definitely the "future classic" of the 70's.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
