    Hj sandy ute or rep

Hi long time looker but just joined. My ute has the following and i would like to if it is a rep or real sandman.

    Mod : hj8wn80

    trim : 1886-18v

    paint : 568-15949

    eng : l31

    trans : m41

    axle : gu7

Unfortunatly the other large plate is missing but rego papers has 2 set capacity and i think 2000kgs weight but i would have to check on the weight could be 1950kgs.

It could be but you can't pick these from tags. Without the ADR tag it is a parts or donor car anyway or at least one to modify.

Was just talking to my brother who tells me if you had the Safety compliance plate (ADR) and the ute had a traceable past with state road authority, you would be able to get a reprint of the ID plate??, but thinks the reverse like you have will be difficult :( .I say don't spend a cent untill you seek advice from your road authority incase it can't be rego'd .
apart from that it was put together in Melbourne in 76.
Not all lost yet just baby steps for now !! Keep asking questions and some one will have an answer

Do you have the chassis no?

It was actually a 9/75 build from the PSN

F doesn't mean 1976, it means 9/75 to 8/76. GVW will be 2200kg. It could go either way, I have plenty of V8 auto HJ Kingswood utes recorded, lots are Sandmans and lots aren't. Absinth yellow was a common colour in HJ utes.

The only chances you have to identify outside of guessing on remaining paint evidence are:
    1. If you can figure out either way if it was column shift or console shift, column is Kingswood, console in Kingswood XX7.
    2. Look for evidence of approx. 8mm diameter or so holes through the front of the guards, both ends of the doors and in the back of the quarters for screws to hold the side strips on, the only way for these to be deleted was with the XX7 special vehicle package. Tailgate ends should be the same, but like the doors and guards it is hard to prove if the unboltables are original.

Picking the body as original to the tags will be a bit easier with this one too, as it was a TH400 which I've rarely ever seen anyone replicate a factory installation properly.
