Yep I'm hearing you on that one. My father in-law offered me a cow 2 goats and a set of Sidcrome spanners to get me to marry his daughter, I still tell her on a regular basis she is my first wife.
Got the motor back today bit upset, $2650 for a put together and $1500 for machine work. Over 4K just for the motor felling a bit ripped off.
Don't feel too bad Wombat. Sounds like going rates depending what they did. I paid about 3000 (3 years ago) for machine work (bore, deck and crank) new pistons to suit rebore fitted to rods, new cam bearings installed, other bearings, rings, double chain, gaskets supplied new and I fitted all back together myself. That didn't include head work (another 900 with unleaded seats/oversize valves)
