    Assistance required confirming HQ ute

    Hello all,

I am pretty sure that this is not a Sandman ute unfortunately lol, just wanting to confirm I have deciphered it correctly.

Thanks for your assistance in advance.

I make it a Royal Purple ( One of my fav GMH colours), antique saddle brown interior, 308, 4 speed, HQ Kingswood ute.

Not too bad a combo ( maybe not the antique saddle brown interior lol ) in my personal opinion if I have this correct and one I am interested in.

    Seating capacity 3 = not a Sandman

Also the body plate & ADR plate may not be originally from the same vehicle.

The 21E interior & Royal Purple exterior is a 1972 combination.

VIN and BODY plates are from a 1/73 Kingswood ute built and assembled at Acacia Ridge. They probably belong together as the numbers are about right. The ADR plate is from an Acacia Ridge assembled 2/74 6cyl ute, no way to tell if it was a Belmont or Kingswood.

    Good onya tez,

Like I said, was pretty sure it wasn't a sandy, was confused by the plates, knew 3 seating summed it up and n as opposed to m.

the car is maroon now with a HQ states grill, has a 308 and a 4 speed, has a gts dash, gts guards, regoed and cheap enough.

M or N has no relevance for a HQ Sandman. Kingswood Sandmans are actually more common than Belmont. Seating capacity also has no relevance as the ADR plate doesn't belong to the other plates, so the ute may well have originally been a bucket seat example.

That the ID plates don't belong together. And neither are from a Sandman. BODY and VIN go together, and ADR is from another car.

So is it myth only that Sandman Panel Vans were Belmont based and Sandman Utes were Kingswood based, in the HQ series?

There were no Kingswood panel vans in HQ-HJ. Sandman special vehicle package was available on all HQ and HJ commercials except cab-chassis, so you could option XX7 (which later became XU3) and the new style XX7 on the following models:

    HQ 6cyl Belmont ute.
    HQ 6cyl Kingswood ute.
    HQ 6cyl Belmont van.
    HQ V8 Belmont ute.
    HQ V8 Kingswood ute.
    HQ V8 Belmont van.
HJ ute (XX7 or XU3 not available on Holden ute after about 3/76).
    HJ Kingswood ute.
    HJ van.

Onec HX came around you could also get a Kingswood van, but as the XX7 and XU3 packages were revised to contain all standard Kingswood stuff there was no need to offer the Sandman package on Kingswood so you could only then get it on ute and van.
