    It is typical of accessories that early releases they are optional extras and by the end of the run they are standard fitment.
    In between they are used as sweeteners by sales staff. Think floor mats and mud flaps.

    Yeah, like cloth inserts in seats...... Some dealers had them fitted to jazz up a plain interior. My friend is a motor trimmer from back in those days and he can tell stories of car yards (including new car dealers) that would fit cloth inserts in everything they had on the lot because they thought people wanted them.
    Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
