    Servo Stories!! Whos got one?

The other day I was gettin gas in the Pano and when I came out this old guy, late 50s I reckon, was lookin in and all ova the van, almost droolin!!

When I got to him he started to tell me about the Green HZ Sandman he used to have, askin questions about my interior and engine etc etc!

Then he told me he had to sell it when petrol hit 33 cents a litre cos he couldnt afford to run it on his apprentice wages!! He was spewin too and could still remember the rego number!!
Can anyone tell me when fuel was EVER 33 cents a litre??

Or please post your stories of ppl comin up to you and your Van!!
Happens everytime I take mine out!!

Gaddy I remember when your only option was Super or Regular and it was 5c a litre.

There are earlier days for me, but I was only 5-7 years old and my grand dad owned a Neptune garage and workshop. I think I have some old 8mm film of it.

I can remember pulling into a Golden Fleece with Dad and him telling the attendant to put 5 gallons in the tank..... after doing so the attendant then checked the oil, air in the tyres and washed the windscreen ...

    Fuel Price.

I remember paying 15c a litre in about 1975. I had my V8 ford back then.

I remember 33c a litre I started my apprenticeship and I used to struggle to run my 351. My mate 14yrs old also had an apprenticeship at the same time at a servo. One night while on roster pumping fuel (any one remember those) When he went to collect the money the blokes in the car decided to grab him by the throat and refuse to pay. Anyway his boss was obviously watching the whole thing going down grabs the pump nozzle sticks it thru the drivers window with a cigarette lighter at the end and asks the blokes in the car make a quick choice. Nedless to say they payed for there fuel.

Back in the early 80's you could buy fuel with the 20c coin machines after hours.

or in 1985 we had a Shell station with a $2 note (green with white sheep) after hours machine.

in 1986 Unleaded came on board, and no one knew what to do about fuel for their mowers and not being able to buy standard

    Fuel

Rodney has lots of memories of fuel being cheaper 8c and 15c/litre and you would go to the pub with $1 and have enough for beer all night....he would go to from Parkes to Sydney in his Datto 120y and would fill up and it would cost $3.51.....
