    Sandman Sales Numbers??

With the never ending jabs between myself and Gene, it got me thinking of the amount of each model sold. Of course we will always be fondest of a particular model (naturally, as everyone has an opinion) , it got me wondering how many of each model were sold. I assume numbers are vague at best, particularly the HQ..... so does anyone have an idea how many of each were sold?

Im guessing HZ sold the most....with HQ the least(as it only ran for approx 9 months)

The gurus have any approximate numbers??

HQ and X had shortest build period. So theoretically they are the least common. There was a thread on here not long ago with total build numbers for each series. That's as close as you will get.

Yeah I had a quick scan for a relavant thread....I'm on my phone coz the kids and wife have hijacked the computers....couldn't find the thread.

Ohh Gene....quick to jump on that one aye?

The HQ was pretty much at the end of its run and was a gamble on behalf of Holden to appeal to a younger market as the van craze was in full swing.....and by the time it took off, it was the start of the HJs run.
I guess the HZ was its swansong so people snapped them up while they could!!
Pffft best?? Didn't even have GTS guards...although it's ride was better. If you lowered them, it defeated the purpose of the RTS.

On a side note Gene....why do you have a HQ year in your username? 73?? You sure you know which model you're batting for?

I think you'll find there were more HJ Sandmans built than any other model. HJ was at the pinnacle of the van craze and demand far outweighed supply.

I also strongly believe there were far more HQ Sandmans built than people think.
4/75 HJ XX7 Sandman Panelvan ... Persian Sand currently restoring
7/76 HX Monaro 4dr 308 4sp... Absinth Yellow and rusty as hell.. SOLD
3/77 HX Sandman Panelvan ... Absinth Yellow and rusty as hell .. SOLD

I'm thinking Glacier 73 might have something to do with the very cool white GTR I saw in Gene's shed

I was only thinking yesterday that the HQ Sandy is now a 40 year old car and are still turning up. I think allot of that is that people now have great knowledge at hand on here to actually find out if they have a legit sandy or not! So many still think they have to have xx7 on the tags, but allot are starting to be educated thats not the case, hence more coming out of the woodwork. I think its a shame though the amount of utes being found does not seem to have increased as I think most utes that had a gts dash and v8 ended up as B&S utes and got the life thrashed out of them, even Im guilty of that one. I can remember a mate of mine and I did circle work in his HX Sandman ute for hours one night trying to blow the motor as he was dropping an 308 in it for the next B&S and its long gone now, squashed and recycled!
