sometimes ive bought stuff off ebay and ended up being satisfied with the result ........but then again sometimes you just got to wonder what some people are on cause what you end up with is just not what they say it is..............i personally find it to much of a head case to try and work out to sell things ......but get on fine with gumtree ....just got to hope they dont change it.

eBay is a business, they're in it to make money. You can choose what you want to buy so if it's too expensive, don't buy it.
I agree here. They cant offer the service for nothing. Look at the amount of chinese goods that are listed at 99c with $20 postage to get around the fees.

i sold some handbrake cables recently on ebay for 99cents. pumped postage to $19 thinking i'd get a few $$ on the P&H only for it to cost me $14.50! all the effort of packing and printing con note etc for $6.50. NOT A WORTHWHILE EXERCISE! Gumtree is a painful experience now. Ads are only live for 1 month. After that you need to put a brand new advert up (including new pics) or pay $2 or something like that as opposed to being able to just hit the repost button for free. I've got a feeling people will actually move back to ebay as a result

I think everyone is over the auction format.

I would like to see a process on ebay like a real auction, where if a bid is placed in the last seconds of an auction, it extends the time, say 2 min to let you re-load a bid and have a chance at winning it. More like a real auction instead of getting pipped at the post! I think it would be a gain for the sellers and buyers.

That is what happens here on Trademe(in New Zealand)If anyone bids in the last 2 mins it extends again for another 2 mins.I recon that is quite fair.

Never miss another or get pipped again... I thought everyone knew about this! It is free, legal and works a treat. All you have to do is create an account/register, enter the ebay auction number (just a straightforward cut and paste), enter the maximum dollar amount you wish to spend to attain/win the item and at however many seconds to run (usually about 5-8 seconds to go) it proxy bids on your behalf up to your maximum amount you specified. The idea I guess is to not show your hand at bidding until the very last moment before the hammer fall. You can still be outbid if someone bids higher than you, even if they are bidding through the ebay mechanism and not using just snipe service.

Sorry from the outset if I have ever outbid any of you using that web service. It is useful I am going to be doing something else when the auction finishes to at least get a bid on at the last moment, or if I just plain forget to get back to ebay before the item finishes. I think you get 5 items free I month to bid on, I think you have to pay something (or upgrade your account) or similar to access over 5 snipes/month.

Now, is it legal - yes as it is effectively just a proxy service that you direct how much you wish to bid on an item. Is it moral - that depends on you, but in this dog eat dog world we live in it could give you an edge... As I mentioned, I thought just about everyone knew about it by now.
    Nunc est bibendum...
