Gene, have you looked at this sort of thing? VHT Vinyl dye
I've used the satin black on things like sun visors etc and as it is an actual dye (not a paint - ie it is very thin going on) it seems to work quite well. Is the HZ cap a type of rubber like the earlier models? I do know that they do not wear so well in high useage areas like steering wheel grips but the horn pad might be OK as it isn't being constantly touched or abraded.
Nunc est bibendum...
Are you trying to revitalise a black one or colour change a Brown one.
The horn cap should be black not brown. Do rare spares make the HZ Sandman one?
I think it may be difficult to get paint/die to stick effectively. It would need to be clean as a whistle with prepsol.

Vinyl spray from supper cheap autos has worked well for me ( about $15 for a can)
Ive got my eye on one on ebay atm but its brown they dont come up that often
and they made them in different colours not just black james
and no rares dont make HZ ones new
never thought of vinyl dye
thanks for all the feedback guys
Hey craig was that paint or a dye that you used
Yeah they did. That I am aware of. Sandman was black though.
Just putting it out there... The cap needs to flex to be fitted. Paint may crack.
I think you will find sandman came in buckskin also james
Not the steering wheel. They were all black.
