I think the future for collecting cars will change as we will no longer have aussie built cars so the higher end of performance cars will become very collectable . Are we saying to the extent hk gts monaros or xy gt ho? No not that price range but a 2002 5.7 monaro that you can buy nowfor 15/ 20 k will be worth keeping Iin my opinion as for vs poverty pack utes ? There couldbe a novelty value I guess !!!!
Beg to differ on that, there is a hsv gto coupe, came out the same time as the gts there are 2 in albury both black with grey high lights, seem to be about as rare as the coupe 4 monaro which is already commanding big dollars

This is one tough room!
I know I was being tongue in cheek but what I was alluding to was the that as far as I am concerned a povo pack HJ panno, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1976-HJ-H...item338ba632e2 , is considered to be a fair price, albeit in terrific condition, what's the difference in that to any povo pack vehicle in nearly 30years time?

It's not $15K in my world. But it's probably over $7000. This Sandman is asking $17K http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOLDEN-HZ...-/121289327424
Interesting thread. I reckon the value of stuff is hard to compare over time because inflation happens too.
However, there are some real money spinners, and not always predictable. For instance; consider a reasonably rust free Torana shell (of any type - even Sunbird) and its value today compared to just 10 years ago. Sunbird!.... I didnt see that coming!!
Should have of course, if its the hatchback you can go to homebuilt A9X territory.
Sure, I realise thats becuase you can turn it into a performance car with fairly available bits (not as available as once), But I reckon VK could be the same! It's so close to the same car as Torana, but lighter, and pretty much everything just bolts on in factory drilled holes.
So I'm thinking that a bog standard VB-K shell without too much rust could be worth a heap more than you'd think in just 10 years, it just needs a 308, drivetrain and brakes, and you're racing, classic look on VK too - it will only become more so...maybe.... one day.
But I did wonder today at the lights looking at a schmick but standard brand new deep green VF wagon with nice factory alloys, what it would be worth if its simply garaged till 2019?
I dunno of course, but my muse was that in 20 years, any Australian built Holden could be worth pretty decent money. And well desired.
So hang on to that VK Flamingo! Its a bit like coal - give it 3 or 4 million years and it might just turn to diamond!
