    4.2l engine

I'm not mechanically minded ( never have been) but now I'm a Sandman owner I realize that I'll always be learning stuff about these vehicles. This is the only place I know where you can , with confidence, have a question nutted out. Even if the answer changes back and forth along the way in the end the correct answer is found.
So, a 4.2L engine from the 70's . Should the oil filler cap be on the passenger or drivers side if the seller is claiming all is original and I can't get to see tags or engine No.

Thanks Absinth . So does that mean that white windowless van on EBay being advertised as 'matching numbers' can't be correct because the oil filler cap is on the passenger side?

Yeah, I noticed that as well. You would need to check the engine number to confirm matching numbers..... It could have a Torana engine in it but it states rings and bearings were done two years ago... Could just be Torana tappet covers unknowingly fitted to original engine.

a lot of sellers also advertise matching numbers as chassis and plates .... Disregarding engine...

As with any purchase of a collectable car.... Do your homework and verify all numbers.

    Unbelievable!
I've been around cars all my life and owned at least one (and in most cases a lot more) of just about every early (pre Commodore) Holden made, and I've never paid attention to what side the oil filler cap was on. I must have a dozen sets of standard Holden V8 rocker covers in the shed and had no idea that they were different.

I do usually fit alloy or chrome after-market ones, so that may be the reason.

But the information network on this forum is staggering....... you're never too old to learn something new.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
