Seems odd they would have not have had the Holden badge. That is the only place the whole car has a Holden emblem if it's a HZ Sandman!
WB grill has a few extra mounting points for badges. They must have had a few more options planned for them.

Byron we are pretty sure that original sandman of mine which was purchased in Grenfell nsw was a Brisbane build van and was 78 manufacture the original chassis no. For this van was BHZ 17242B engine number was AR 999109 I think the engine number is hard to read the dealers notice is 40 odd years old carbon copy
HZ jasmine yellow sandman van
HZ Madeira red sandman van (now sold to bigrob)
HX mandarin red sandman ute
HZ malachite green sandman van
Married to Jennie285
Know of a Brisbane build 7/78 van, original front with spoiler cut outs and what looks like the original black grille with holden badge.
My hz sandman was built in 1977 reg in 78 built in Dandenong l have the red badge and photos of early days my van in photos with van rat
I'll keep looking and see what else I can find. Jennie, I have an Acacia Ridge van recorded 10 chassis numbers earlier than that, but it is Flamenco.
It isn't super early. The HZ ute on the brochure is IXD-457, that is IXT so it is a reasonable while after. There was a Supermint press test van built in the middle of September '77 but it had rego SXO-293 and I think that is a SA rego number? It's chassis number was over 01000A, was L31 M41 air, steer, DL7.
My 77 XX7 Ute has one. Was restored from a daily driver before I bought it, but given that it never actually went to wreck and ruin there's now reason to believe it was different from new.
As a few have said, another variable in the legend that is the Sandman...!
