    5 speed celica conversion HELP

G'day all. I've just bought another HZ sedan to use as a parts car for my project ute. Included with the sale was a 202 red motor with a full celica 5 spd conversion. I plan on putting this setup in my ute. The only issue I can see is that the shifter might be in a funny position as I have a bench seat in the ute.

The factory 4 speed has a dogleg in the shifter, and it looks like the celica shifter sits even further back than the 4spd. As this conversion has been done millions of times, I'm hoping someone can give me some guidance as to what sort of trickery is involved in making the shifter fit with a bench seat

    cheers.

Ring Jeff Dellow (Dellow Automotive Sydney) and buy a "Stick Forward" conversion. Celica 5 speed boxes offered 3 stick positions.
Be sure to mention if it is steel case or aluminium.

Pretty sure Castlemaine Rod Shop used to do a kit that brought the shifter forward through the original hole, still going to hit your seat though unless you modify the seat or do a bit of cutting/heating/welding to crank the shifter forward. Only problem may be I think the outer chrome part of the shifter is rubber bonded to the inner from memory and may get damaged in the process. Slight scallop out of the seat may be best.

I've got a celica 5 speed that was in a Torana I bought years ago.
It's buried in the shed somewhere, but my memory is that it has a few different block off plates on the top of the box for optional shifter positions (as mentioned already), so you will be able to sort something out. Have a bit of a play around and I'm sure you'll work it out.

You could stick a pair of buckets in too.....
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
