I'm going to the Summernats to enter the skid competition, you know where you do them on the purpose built skid pad. After that hang in the crowd with all the other dropsh!ts and egg on others by saying do a skiddie mate, do a skiddie! Off to the drag races to watch the top fuelers and funny cars do some more skids.
Then I'm going to light 'em up and do some burnouts on my BMX and when I'm finished go home and polish my hud caps and dream about buying a chrome rocket cover. Then defend it all on a forum about Sandmans.
<fun>insert your own fun here</fun>
Bag it up ya legend.
At least the conversation has headed in a different direction now...
"Bagging" a car is something else entirely these days so it seems - gone are the days of "see ya sideways..."
The language is changing forever, or should that be "fo'evva!"
Yesh mayte, it's driftin' and skidz like dis bro.... Aww Mah gawd....

I just watched the 27th Summernats on telly today..... I see it hasn't changed much from the first one I went to in 1988.
Saw a Commodore catch fire in the burn outs and wreck the paintwork to the rear of the car, a 2010 Camaro whack the concrete barrier and rip off half his rear end, others damaging their cars with flying hot rubber and then jump on the roof to wave to the crowd doing more damage to paint and panel.... What sort of moron spends tens of thousands of dollars on their car and then does this to it in a burnout comp??? Family event? I wouldn't take my family there after all the bleeping out of swearing, carrying on like idiots for the cameras and general yahooing I saw displayed on camera. Pretty sure they banned the street cruise because of the bad behaviour quite a few years ago.

I was there in '88 (first year of the Burnout pad) in '86 it was just on the NATEX internal road. Of course that wasn't Summernats (it hadn't been invented at that stage). I think I did every Summernats for 13 years. But you grow out of it, you can't take your missus for the wolf whistles and show ya tits by every second drunken idiot. But when your younger and it's all new we thought it was the place to be. I still have every entrant plaque, T-Shirt and Sticker from every year in my collection. Actually one of my entrant plates is on my tubbed HT Van.
It's not for me anymore, some say I'm just old and cranky! But the reality is I'm just not young and stupid.
Yeah, I've got some of my T-shirts and dash plaques from the 1st few Summernats too, I was digging around in my (vast) sticker collection a few weeks ago and found an envelope full of dash plaques and key rings.
And I have to agree with you about the terminology, a skid is when you are coming to a stop, a burnout is when you are accelerating. The whole problem with this sort of stuff is when consensus seems to rule (even when it's wrong!) I have the same trouble with every kid coming into my shop asking for a new "sprocket" for their BMX. I tell them that BMX bikes all have 9 tooth sprockets attached to the hub now, and that they mean the "chainring" on the cranks. They have been conditioned by idiots and will not accept the correct term, especially when some old bloke is telling them.
Even if he has had 50 years experience in the sport......
Same thing is happening with "skid".
(while I'm on it, I also hate wheels being called "rims" too.... They aren't alloy rims, they are alloy wheels!)
OK.... I'm done....
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
