Just wondering how much hassle it would be to put an LS 1 or 2 motor in a Hq / HX ??
Who has done this and what benefits were there versus negatives.
Im just thinking about reliability.
Thoughts??
Gaddy.

You can buy all you need for the conversion off the shelf pretty much.
I think it's a great idea so long as it not into a desirable Sandman model.
There are at least 3 being built on the Majestic Vanners forum.
Cheers. Was thinking more for my HQ coupe rebuild not the Sandman at the moment.
Does it need to be engineered??
Has to be engineered here in Qld. Plenty of
LS1 conversions been done here though.
There is a bloke putting one in an RX7 also.
"Proud To Be An Old Fart".
Mainly for the ULP setup (CATS, original tune, noise etc). If you use already Engineered mounts and crossmember it won't be an issue. Marks 4WD sell a conversion flywheel too so you can run a Muncie, T10, TKO etc behind one if you want a manual, otherwise a 4L65E will fit a HQ if you go auto.
I've heard there is no room for a manual, how much work would be required to chop up a floor pan to make it fit?
i have plans to put an ls2 into my van, but im going to use a turbo400 box. hoping to 4 link the back and maybe airbag it too.
if someone has ls'ed their hx let me know what you needed to change in VIC
already have engine and trans mounts, radiator, electic water pump, t400, have the 9" in it, but might get that built again. thinking about some small tubs too
I rang mal wood in qld about it when I was looking at an ls1 and t56 he said its dear to do ,but he gets a different rear housing and changes a few bit can also change ratios for it if needed google mal wood and talk to him before you dismiss t56 but was too much for me I'll go auto if I ever go ls1.
