There's a fella on eBay that rebuilds LS1/2/3 looms as stand alone looms. Gets rid of any accessories you don't use. Pretty pricey though.

lots of guys are raving about them in HQ - WB....what would be the weight difference between cast iron SBC and LSX?
the problem with the 6 speed in the early holdens is that the shifter is nearer to the rear console bracket than anything else

Not sure of the weight difference, but surely the LS1 in aluminum has to be lighter than cast iron. But inherently cast iron is stronger than aluminum .... So I've read recently.
The tunnel also needs mods to fit the manual box
