As long as the diff has the correct mounts welded to the housing and is the correct length, all you'll need is a different length tailshaft. And whatever internals you decide to go for. Be warned though, some states might require you to have Holden stud pattern, not Ford.

A simple 9" conversion is a simple bolt in conversion (onto leaf springs).
Add the Caltracks to stop spring wind up/diff hop.

You could do coilovers and 4 link but this seems well above your knowledge and budget.

Thank you all for your input. I think I will go with Glacier 73's idea if it has been good for him and most of you agree. They are easy to find and not to difficult to install.

If you are going down this track then this is the time to purchase the wheels and have the 9" diff width sized to suit.
It will allow you to set quite wide rims into the factory wheel arches with a decent dish. Have the axle stub patten changed to HQ etc.

If you can get away with standard XA-XC width, you can simply run Ford backing plates and shoes with HQ-WB drums. Just need the stud pattern changed. Saves having the axle tube ends changed. The shoes and all other dimensions are identical. If you feel that way inclined you can also use the bigger shoes and associated backing plates that GT's etc had and run front drums off a HQ-HJ.
