    Removing ignition barrel ..explained

Firstly you need to remove the steering device..then you will be staring at this...

Then you need to remove the switching stuff which is held on with screws..you will work it out..
You will then be staring at this and it may confuse some because there is no slot to put your thin screwdriver or knife into to release the barrel..this van had its original ignition..you need to poke a hole thru the alloy as per the pics below..

You also need to have the ignition in the off position..not lock or accesories but off..1 back from when the red dash lights should be on..

Then you can poke at the slot and pull out the ignition barrel with the other hand...thats if its being nice to you..if its not use a larger flat head screwdriver to lever the ignition barrel out slightly..

This is exactly the same removal procedure for all models hq to wb and also lj to uc torana and vb to vl commodores.

gypsy, when i dont have the correct key i use a box of full of spare keys that i have collected over the years to 'jiggle' the lock...when that doesnt work i take it to a locksmith and get him to jiggle the lock out with his special tools..go see the thread about removing the top pot and then ring your local locksmiths to make sure that they can do the removal for you...failing that you need to buy another top pot without a barrell in it...if you cant do any of that ring me and i will sell you a top pot with a new ignition already fitted.

    Lightbulb Removing ignition barrel

Thanks got coffee pot off. I think someone has jamed a screw driver up it before plus we had to snap the lock to get it out of the blokes back yard. I'll be more careful with the spare pot. once I get my real computer back I'll start puting up some photos of the resto

just make sure your top bearing section is good before you go to all the hassles of fitting the new ignition etc..
