"Van Rat" the famous show van from the late 70's early 80's was a HJ 6 Cyl Sandman.
Of course in it's famous guise it was a 454 Big Block Chev.

Today you can find it listed on Car Sales with a 308 fitted.

    Absolutely!

My son is only a few years from getting his L's we might have this discussion about putting a 6 in the other van.

Bloody stupid isn't it, you could put a VN-VSIII V6 in one and legally drive it on P's but can't drive a clunky old 253!

Dont know what the big fuss is .......throw a 308 in your sandman and its so much better than your mates 253 .....ive always been a holden buff and had absolute crap 308s ok the 253 doesnt have the cubes well who gives.....they can still pull ok and just love the sweet sound of one working.

I never thought of the P plate factor. You would have to be one lucky kid to have a sandman to drive around on Ps!

I could afford an HX prem on my P's... Now kids are driving new VE's on their P's... And that's problem right there... Who can afford any Sandman now that they're more expensive than a luxury car. No one wanted them years ago, now every man and his dog wants them and it's driving the cost of rubbish through the roof. Buy my rusty, ex paddock, motor-less, no hanging panels, dash or interior at all for the low starting price of $15,000. GENUINE Sandman. Bring a trailer cause it has no diff or wheels.

    I don't know, this wasn't bad buying for $24,000.

there are some good buys out there if you are vigilant in looking through all the car classifieds and have the cash ready to jump on them.

This one also sold on eBay last year in Sept and was great buying at $11,000
