If I had a spare $65,000 I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It is a HJ Sandman in a desirable colour, 308 with TH400 in original condition with log books and only 167,000 original klm. Rare in itself but throw in the Overlander number 5 build status and it's rarer still.

only drawback is the aftermarket airconditioner and ugly aftermarket side windows.

I see the rarity and I like the specs. I also see the side glass and pathetic detailing. I don't though see $65K
Actually I only see around half that and I wouldn't be keen even then as it not my desire. But whatever floats your boat I guess.

Check out the red dust in the passenger side vent and the rest of the car for that matter

It is a pretty rare Overlander too as almost all series 1 Overlanders were HX. Only the first few were HJ's. I wonder if it was built from a secondhand Sandman or if it was an new old stock HJ when it was converted. It is a June '76 build and was complianced as an Overlander in 3/77.

Overlanders are worth more than a standard sandman...especially the Hayward ones

While that is potentially true is not necessarily true. Yes they are rare and this one has good options, history and paperwork but there is only ever going to be a limited amount of buyers.
If you were into Sandman Panel Vans and the sub-culture then the Overlander will have little to no interest. If your solely into 4X4 and it's sub culture these are not likely to interest you either.
Really they are an old man's travel bus ready to tow your caravan and boat around the country. That was the target market in it's day (or at least where they ended up!)
It's a cool old thing - no risk. I even like it, but never at $65K. It's all well and good to say it's worth heaps because it's rare, even easier when your not actually parting with your own cash.

I reckon a HQ sandman van with the right combo colour and drive line would be worth more
What do you class as a standard sandman
