None of that says Sandman for sure, as everything other than the guards and blackouts are optional on a HQ Kingswood ute and both are easily changed.
What does the speedo read to?
Does it have the console mount bracket?
Any evidence of sill stainless strips?
Speedo to 200 mph and says at bottom 10 miles=16km,console mount between seats at rear of cab.
Stainless steel strips are meant to be where?
Nowhere if a Sandman, Kingswood ute had them on the sills, deleted as part of the Sandman package.
Small Tag reads,
8N80RDJ4458920
On the other its ,4850lbs EHQ28176M Seating 2
Is there anything else that can help me identify this ute? I will post pics soon.
Has all the hallmarks of being a Sandman. I would buy it and do it up as a Sandman anyway, as it is a HQ even without proven heritage as a Sandman it will still be worth far more than later models in the maybe category.

I'd be reasonably confident it is, but you'll have to take a chance on it. If it has the console/separator bracket and the tags are original to the body then it has to be a Sandman.
Here are some pics of the old girl. It was used as a shooting rig hence the bench seat sitting in the front and has had a 6 thrown in it. It has a lot of cancer and sun burn but I think it is worth having a crack at turning into a long term project. The tags are all original to the ute and has the consul mount so I am pretty sure its worth throwing time and money into it. I must ask though at what point do you folks think that its not worth it and parts and every thing else is just to hard? I have always wanted a hq sandman ute but just thought there were too few around and to hard to find now. Would appreciate your feed back?

How ironic, I was just wondering why my Kingswood Ute didn't have the stainless rocker trim as I was looking at the XX7 options list and saw that it was a delete item on Sandmans and this post makes mention of that very fact - this is why I love My Sandman - it answers questions and puts people straight.
Interesting that it looks like another Monterey Green metallic paint job. My original HQ Sandman Ute I owned was that colour as is my current Ute - obviously this was this a very popular colour in 1974. My original Ute was Chestnut seats, doors and dash pad, hence 39B I assume. Whilst I never found out if it was Belmont or Kingswood, the absence of door rests makes me think Belmont based.
Nearly on the Road
GNW1974.....Hq Sandman utes were based on Kingswood...and the vans were Belmonts
Seavan....go for it. Theyre becoming to rare to knock back. The truth of its condition will be revealed when shes striped naked and nothing is hidden. I know i would grab it
