"Proud To Be An Old Fart".
A HQ Kingswood with full GTS options in Persian Sand Metallic? Has to have been either a very late Sandman ute or a very late GTS sedan (XV4 or XW8 Kingswood). I've yet to see a HQ in Persian Sand, it'd be a very late August or September 1974 HQ to be in a HJ colour as they were changing over a few colours a week to HJ colours in that period.
I bought the '74 Kingy new from the local Holden dealer in '74, not sure what month. Traded in my Capri GT V6. It was fully GTS optioned (minus front guards) 4 speed. I had originally ordered a Chrome Yellow GTS but there was a 6 mth wait for it to be delivered. So I decided on the Kingswood and it was a fantastic car! Loved the colour so much that when I ordered my Sandman it was again in the Persian Sand!
I found a good pic of a HJ Sandman panelvan in Persian Sand.... This is exactly how mine should look when restored complete with side windows.... Minus the chrome drip rails above the doors.
It looks quite good with black stripes also... Not as in your face as white ones would be....
It is also interesting to note that a vast majority of HJ vans I have found pics of have side windows.... Seems to me the HQ and HJ Sandman was far more popular early on with the surfer crowd who actually drove and parked their cars so preferred the better vision windows provided and just fitting curtains for privacy when getting changed and sleeping.... HX and HZ seem to be when the customisers really hit the van scene and no windows or stripes were preferred for custom paint jobs and murals.

hey Absinth i think that HJ you posted is a WA car. I remember it or one like it being for sale for about 2 years and asking 30,000. persian is obviousy not everyones cup of tea but fair to say it is gaining popularity as a period colour again. it had original 80,000 kms. i think greentaxi on this site may of bought it
