Well done. How does the ute tow? Did Rod use the load levellers?

No load levellers the vehicle is positioned on the trailer to put about 80 kg on the tow and it rides and pulls very well at that
I think shorn has done very we'll .he's got a lot of work to be done but it's a very honest original van.
The van doesn't look like it has done 400 000 km like most you see . looking at the wear and tear the speedo has probably only been around once or twice making it 100 or 200 odd thousand km
It has also spent all its life inland so although she has some rust it's mostly sills and rear quarters. floors ,plentem and doors etc are pretty good the rear upper tail gate is as good as you ever find ,both struts work correctly without cleaning anyway

It does look pretty good. The colour will grow on you Sean.
Is your ute an XR6T? Auto? I've been looking at one as a tow car to replace the Hilux, but with the 2300kg tow package they specify load levellers. I just have to convince them to factory upgrade the suspension so it can actually legally tow 2300kg!
The colour is growing on me Byron. The more I look over it the better it gets, there is very little wear on the pedal rubbers which means it wasn't driven much or did long klm. It started out in Mt Isa and I have a receipt out of it for a retread tyre purchased in Canberra in 1982. Apparently it has been in a shed for the last ten to fifteen years and a young fella bought it, he removed the door trims, console, sunvisors and carpet and went no further..... It was then sold to the guy I bought it off. So I need those interior bits but the rest in there and mostly original. Dash facia is a Rares repro but the gauges are original as is the lower facia panel with the blanked off footwell vent slides.
the rear cargo area is dent free and still has a good cover of grey vynacoat so it has never been fitted out or carried much. The original six digit speedo shows 40,000klm and judging from the wear on the brake and clutch pedal rubber pads I would be surprised if the odometer has been clocked more than once.

I am considering just fixing up what I have to for roadworthy and driving it around as is for a while as a survivor... Engine is strong and blows no smoke and the brakes are good.

Many moons ago I had a mate with a Persian HX sandy....at first the colour had me recoiling in disgust, but before long it really grew on me.

A very proud Absinth with his new HJ, he was grinning like a cheshire cat
He will have this whipped into shape shortly, he had already found his console and installed it before he shut the garage door, then after going down to our yard with Rodney to put the trailer away, he discovered our parts container. Pity we have given him a key to the yard which also lets him into the parts containers. I think I will give him the donor ute for Christmas to fix his sills under the doors lol.....

Nunc est bibendum...
Good on ya Sean, My 2 cents is... if I found that van in my drive way I would do as you thought and put it on the road as is after a road worthy + reg, then look-listen and gather all you need for a Re-do and hit it with every thing at once, that way you won't do as most of us have done and open a big can of worms
