Here's a video I just found that can show you results on a set of rims.
I use a 50/50 ratio of molasses to water, you need to mix it and then let it ferment in the tub for two weeks before using it for rust removal.

Great info in that video Blocker, I'm glad that someone has already worked out all the problems with rust coming back and it wont be so much of trial and error. I'll have to get me some this week and give it a go. Do you throw it out after or can it be stored and re-used?
Can be left in container with a lid on it and used over and over.....

After reading this thread and watching the video I had to try it. I brought a 44 gallon drum and some molasses and placed the stub axle in the mix. 2 weeks later and this is the result. There is slight oxidation from where i washed the axle but look at the difference. I now have some panels, a diff housing and the other stub axle in the mix, i am sold on it.
I have a big 3 meter diameter tub so i can do radiator supports and doors ect,i mix mine 9 water to 1 molasses it seems to work ok,works well for old dray sets and dingo traps they come out like new.you have to be careful with aluminium, brass, copper and old cast heads as it will eat it away.
Incredible results! I have a bunch of brakes/stub axles that look like that and I was going to chuck them out. I thought they were fu#%*d, but I'm keeping them and building a molasses bath.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
