HK-T-G just like those before have a Station Wagon floor pan. Once you knock the panels out you can fit a folding wagon rear seat in exactly the same way as the wagon.
The VU-VY-VZ work on the same principal with a wagon floor pan although you would also have to relocate the fuel tank.
^^that's how Gemini van and wagon work too.
Sandmans were only commercials and only had 2 seats, thats why i went down this track for a family hauler.
One engineer I spoke to about thus last year wanted a stack of work for it to pass. Installing a roll cage was one thing....but when he wanted to make a 'mock' van to simulate a side impact collision and then test it in a roll over accident, even he admitted its going too far and not worth the headache. It would end up costing almost 10K when all is said and done.
Maybe if 15-20 people were interested in it, they could financially contribute to the 'experiment'....but in reality I don't think it's worth it.....plus a sideways mounted seat looks kinda silly
My big block HQ Van was originally engineered in NSW with a bench seat in the rear (pointing forward) although it was stupid and I pulled it out.
To get something engineered you must draw a comparison to another already ADR approved vehicle. This gives the engineer something to base conclusions upon.
Ultimately suggesting the use of a dickie seat from a EL Falcon (7 seater) wagon or similar should see it past the post. Even if it is only suitable for children to a certain age.
From memory, said engineer also wanted the van to HAVE side windows as well....as another point of exit in an emergency.
I'm sure there was a couple other 'must haves' but can't remember them now. When my brain switches on, I'll post them up
So if you get a 2 seater sandman registered to accommodate 4 seats....is it still a Sandman??

Save your self the Heart ache and buy a good HZ four door, use the van for shows and the like and the four door for family cruises
Yeah have looked into 4 doors but anything decent is expensive . Plus already have too many cars may just change buckets to a bench for the time being . Not sure bout mounting of the middle seatbelt though ? Also baby seat legalities in front seat.
