    253/308 carbs and aircleaner Q's

Ok I have a 253 in the HX with engine number prefix VR****** (haven't looked up what it came out of) so bought a HZ aircleaner that came off a 253.

Went down to fit it on my carby and..........

I've got a rochestor quadrajet on it instead of the strommy..... bugger... Question for the petrol heads??? which would be better, keep the quaddy on it or go back to the standard 2 barrel strommy???

v is prefix for commodore sean..its a blue motor from a vc or vh as i can just see the middle bolts of the manifold in the carby pic so therefore you will have to change your heads to red pollution to accept a 2 barrel manifold as all blue 253s ran 4 barrels..carby looks to be hx hz variety as i can just make out a front adjusting screw..

    Thanks Greg.
Thought it was probably Commodore but the red motor paint with a bit of yellow over it threw me a bit... Which is the better engine, red heads and 2 barrel or leave it as is?

I reckon it would be better to stick with the quad and find the right air cleaner.

sean just verify with me that the middle bolt holes [on each side of the carby] are offset and there is 2 about 1 inch apart..the picisnt that good but thats what it looks like to me...blue 253 with quaddy is good...

the question is directed at petrol heads, so the answer is Quaddy, no argument.

if you ask a matching numbers guru who has never done a burnout in his life, 2barrl strommy.

i would run the quaddy but run a original HJ 4barrel air cleaner.

what numbers does your quaddy start with 1705xxxx(red motor) or 1708xxxxx(blue motor)

While we are talking about carbs.

How do you know what number carb suits an engine. For my wannabe Monaro (HZ GTS) Resto I am doing the number thing. Yes sad I know. lol. But I want to start looking for the correct carb. Assuming the carb that was on it may not be the original. Its a 308. I can give eng number if that helps?
