    Towing the HQ?

Would I be right in saying that my crewman v6 can't legally tow a hq coupe on a car trailer? It would weight 1450 kg. and if so is the speed limit 80kmh or with the speed limit. Cheers

I'm pretty sure a Crewman V6 auto can tow 2100kg but a manual one is only 1600kg. Check your owners manual.

So if you have an auto V6 Crewman and the HQ weighs 1450kg it means the trailer must weight 2100kg - 1450kg + towball weght. Which means 650kg + weight on the Crewman's towball so it'll be right on the limit. If it is a manual V6 sell it and buy a V8 auto, these can tow 2500kg from memory.

Guessing an approx towball mass of about 200kg, you have to subtract that from the load capacity of the Crewman too which is about 750kg, which leaves you with about 550kg load in the Crewman. So say you have 300kg of people (5 x passengers) you can only put an additional 250kg in the car and this will include fuel, towbar and any other accessories on it. So if you are planning on towing the HQ and load up the Crewman think again!

BEFORE you even think about towing that much with a 4L65E auto you will need to get an auto transmission cooler fitted, and i'd also recommend getting the tranny fluid flushed and put synthetic fluid in it, it runs a bit cooler than the mineral stuff.

The one I have is a auto, it is the storm model which when new was rated at 1 tonne load and after about a month they recalled it to put a 730 kg compliance plate on it, they said the vy ss wheels couldn't take the 1 tonne.

DO some homework on the trailer TARE weight and do some sums. Whatever you do don't tow without a cooler, Holden used to sell them as a kit which included all instructions to fit the cooler plus a heat shield for the tailshaft coupling.

I don't think the v6 T700 is up to towing car trailers regularly. The front seal on the box fails and leaks oil, trans cooler or not. The converter is too small and generates too much heat on the from bearing and fails as a result. The v8 t700 Is better because the converter is bigger.

It isn't a T700 in a VY or VZ Crewman. The V8 versions and tonners were 4L65E, not 100% sure if the V6 crewman and tonners got the 4L65E too but I think they did.
