Hi archy, I believe the 8W is a General Motors code for Holden Australia, M for commercial, and the70 is panelvan
8 = Australia
W = Body Platform
M = Luxury Level (in this case commercial)
70 = Panel Van
I know people call them "H" series but they are in fact "W" body platform series.
It was replaced with the "V" series platform which we are still on as far as full size bodies are concerned.

Correct. GMH had T,U,V and W sized vehicles. T was Gemini (and small car starting at TA), U is 4cyl Torana and Sunbird (and later Torana), V is Commodore (but later also included Holden (eg VU ute and V2 Monaro) and some Statesman (VQ etc), and W was Holden and Statesman (HJ-WB and later also Statesmans eg WH etc).
